Low back pain is a common complaint we see in our Denver chiropractic clinic for treatment. Many times patients try to “tough it out” with low back pain or other pain conditions in their body, hoping that it will resolve on its own. While this can happen, many times the back pain can become worse or even “flare up” or become recurrent. This is when an acute pain becomes chronic or off and on over the person’s life. Low back pain treatment is easiest in the acute phase, or directly after the pain begins. Once the pain has lingered around for months or even years, it is much more difficult to treat. This does not mean chiropractic care is not effective for chronic pain. It means that acute conditions typically resolve quicker than chronic conditions, as one would think.
Chiropractic Low Back Pain Research
“Patients with chronic low-back pain treated by chiropractors showed greater improvement and satisfaction at one month than patients treated by family physicians. Satisfaction scores were higher for chiropractic patients. A higher proportion of chiropractic patients (56 percent vs. 13 percent) reported that their low-back pain was better or much better, whereas nearly one-third of medical patients reported their low-back pain was worse or much worse.”
